Crock pot short ribs are extremely easy to prepare. Despite being the easiest of our beef short ribs recipes, you can expect flavorful and tender barbecue short ribs.
There is no pre-browning or even defrosting necessary with this recipe for slow cooker short ribs. Simply throw the ingredients together in the morning and pair with a green salad for a wonderful meal in the evening!
With this slow cooker short ribs recipe you can expect tremendously tasty ribs in a thin but flavorful sauce - like a broth. If you want the sauce thicker, put sauce in blender with 3/4 teaspoon of gar or xanthan to thicken or use Arrowroot powder (not low carb) mixed with cold water to thicken.

As will all of our meat recipes, we recommend you use grass-fed beef from a trustworthy source. In general, you will need to buy it directly from a rancher because the beef labeled as “grass-fed” in the stores is almost always finished on a corn/grain diet.
A full slab of short ribs is typically about 10 inches square, ranges from 3-5 inches thick, and contains three or four ribs, intercostal muscles and tendon, and a layer of boneless meat and fat which is thick on one end of the slab and thins down to almost nothing on the other.
There are numerous ways to butcher short ribs. The ribs can be separated and cut into short lengths (typically about 2 inches long), called an "English cut" or "flanken cut" across the bones (typically about 1/2 inch thick).For thicker gravy: Add some flour or Arrowroot powder that has been mixed well with cold water.
For Gluten Free: Use Arrowroot powder or light buckwheat flour (both available from www.nutsonline.com) to thicken gravy. Both make wonderful wheat-free gravy!
For No/Low Carb: Add ¾ tsp guar gum or xanthan to sauce and blend in blender on high.
